Ogun Ready to Feed Nigeria – Gov. Dapo Abiodun

The Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun has expressed the state’s readiness to feed the nation.

Mr. Abiodun made this known in a post on X on Monday during the harvest of rice planted by farmers in the state in May 2024.

According to him, the state achieved a yield of 7 metric tons per hectare (7 MT/hct) from a 200-hectare pilot project, where outgrowers were allocated 1 hectare each.

“The total harvest amounted to approximately 1,400 MT, which translates to about 20,000 bags of milled rice, valued at One billion Naira in revenue every three months.

“These farmers, mostly youth and women who had never farmed before, are now part of a transformative project,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that his administration will now upscale to 2,000–5,000 hectares, aiming for approximately 10–25 billion Naira per quarter, adding that “Ogun State is ready to feed the nation.”
